School and Remedial Training

Unmish consists of a day school which offers education, assessment, consultancy, and counselling to differently abled children and young adults to help them achieve independent living in the community. We admit students from the age to 2 years to 16 years old.

Assessment

We conduct functional assessment for children & young adults which gives a picture of the individual’s level at different skills areas. Based on the report we design an IEP (Individual Education Plan) including the vocational plan.

Consultancy

This is often the first point of contact with families. During such sessions families meet one of our therapists and the head of our organization to discuss their concerns about their child or family member with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Cerebral Palsy & Behavioural Problems etc. During the sessions with the family, we arrive at the best course of action for getting help for their child. We offer an after school support for such children attending mainstream school as well as special school. Apart from the therapies it includes developing communication, focusing specifically on comprehension, developing socially appropriate behavior and academic issues.

Counselling

Families, where there is a child with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Behavior Problems , Downs Syndrome often feel isolated and cut off from society. During these focused group discussions, information is given on topics such as stress management, solving eating and sleeping problems, helping siblings and members of the extended families, managing others reactions, exploring treatment options and looking to the future. Parents can during such sessions explore and develop their own resources in a supportive environment over a few weeks. We also invite doctors, psychiatrists and other professionals from time to time to talk to parents and other family members.

Special Education

Special education is provided according to the needs in a flexible infrastructure to achieve functional and academic goals. It is also to nurture mental abilities like thinking, understanding, comprehending, reading & writing with a host of other things including behavior modification, improving handwriting, fine motor skills etc.

We also focus on The Activities of Daily Living (ADL) which are a series of basic activities performed by individuals on a daily basis necessary for independent living at home or in the community. There are many variations on the definition of the activities of daily living but mainly there are 5 basic categories.

Personal hygiene – Bathing, grooming and oral care
Dressing – The ability to make appropriate clothing decisions and physically dress oneself
Eating – The ability to feed oneself though not necessarily to prepare food
Maintaining continence – Toth the mental and physical ability to use a restroom.
Transferring – Moving oneself from seated to standing and get in and out of bed

We provide a specialized curriculum for children appearing for or preparing for NIOS and OBE exams. Our team provides a scheduled and detailed Individualized Education Plan and guidance strategies for parents. In class training is given on a 1:1 basis.

Remedial Classes

Remedial classes are for children going to regular schools but maybe a slow learner or having learning disabilities (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia), ADHD, Autism, Developmental Delay, Speech Delay, Down Syndrome.

We train the child following the school syllabus and giving therapy intervention as required. These are all after-school sessions, and prepare the child to be at par with their peers. If at any point of time, it seems that the child is unable to cope up with the regular curriculum, with the consent of the respective school teacher and the parent, the student is given an OBE/NIOS syllabus.

Apart from the things mentioned above, we also help the child in reading, writing, phonetics, handwriting, logical and comprehensive skills, sequential learning, and sitting habits which are the core of learning.
